ARLIS/NA requests our feedback

ARLIS/NA is asking for your feedback on their preliminary goals for Strategic Plan (2011-2015).

Please review the memo below, sent from Marilyn Russell, ARLIS/NA President. If you would like to share your thoughts about the proposed goals, please email Yuki Hibben, ARLIS/DC-MD-VA Chair at ydhibben@vcu.edu.

To ARLIS/NA Chapter Chairs from Mari Russell, ARLIS/NA President:

The Strategic Planning Committee will begin the process of gathering input from the ARLIS/NA membership for the next Strategic Plan (2011-2015). I am asking that you as Chapter Chairs note that this process will begin this month and next month as your Chapters meet for Fall meetings. This process will eventually include the Society’s Committees, Divisions, Sections and Special Interest Groups. Please take time at your upcoming Chapter meetings to review and discuss some of the critical issues stated below and then give your feedback. Your feedback may be given directly to Vanessa Kam, Chapters Liaison or to Patricia Barnett, Strategic Planning Committee Chair.

A set of preliminary goals assembled by the Strategic Planning Committee will be submitted to the Chapters for their review and feedback. The Committee has considered a variety of internal and outside sources in compiling these goals and has reviewed the strategic plans of other organizations to identify relevant issues and potential collaborations. Focus groups will be considered to assure the broadest possible representation of the “shifting library landscape.” Some of the critical issues contained in the Preliminary Goals cover:

  • new directions and identity for the profession;
  • a stronger leadership presence through promotion and advocacy;
  • addressing risk management and stewardship of our collections;
  • the critical role of collaborations and partnerships;
  • increased international connections;
  • prioritizing the Society’s role in R&D and in networking/sharing resources and knowledge;
  • expanding mentoring, management, and transition skills.

A special thank you for the ongoing work of the Strategic Planning Committee: Jamie Lausch, Hannah Bennett, Jennifer Garland, Eumie Imm-Stroukoff, Barbara Rachenbach, Eric Wolf, and Patricia Barnett, Chair.
