Would you be interested in providing mentorship for one evening to a group of new and transitioning library professionals?
A joint committee of District of Columbia Library Association (DCLA), District of Columbia Special Libraries Association (DC/SLA), and Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) members organizing a Speed Mentoring program on May 25. We are seeking library leaders, transitioning professionals, or new librarians who have just cracked the job market to share their experiences.
Registered mentees have indicated an express interest in careers in the arts. Whether you are in museums, academics, independent consulting, archives, or the vendor business, please consider participating.
If you are not familiar with the concept, speed mentoring is based on the formula of speed dating. The idea is to create a low-stress and fun way for new and transitioning librarians to make connections with experienced members of the profession. In the course of the evening you will meet with 6 mentees for 15 minutes each. Mentees may seek resume or cover letter guidance, want advice on career goals, or may just want to chat about the profession. Like dating, the connections you make might lead to beautiful relationships!
Event details:
Place and time: Jenner & Block, Wednesday, May 25th Registration from 5:45 to 6:15; informal networking and refreshments from 5:45 – 6:20; introduction from 6:20 – 6:30, including a few words from financial sponsor TRAK library recruiting; speed mentoring 6:30 – 8:00. Mentors will have 6 time slots of 15 minutes each (including “switch time”) available during the evening.
