Business Meeting

Introductions
Heather Slania called the meeting to order at 12:24 pm, and asked members to introduce themselves.

  1. Approval of the 2014 Summer Meeting Minutes (distributed at meeting)
  2. Meeting minutes were approved, pending change to Tessa Brawley-Barker’s name.

  3. Report from the Chair (Heather Slania)
  4. The chapter name change is now reflected on all chapter web content, and the chapter listserv had been migrated to a new address also reflecting the name change, with a re-direct for the old listserv address. Heather announced the upcoming change in chapter officers, and thanked outgoing board members Shalimar White and Nick Curotto.

    Kristen Regina, ARLIS/NA Vice-President/President-Elect,will soon be announcing a technology matrix with various tools available to ARLIS/NA members, such as Go-to-Meeting and website sub-domains. The ARLIS/NA website has been re-designed; be sure to log in as a member to see all content. ARLIS/NA announces the launch of a Learning Portal, which will include content from virtual meetings, lunchtime chats, and webinars.

    Reviews of the ARLIS/NA bylaws and policy manual are on the horizon. Direct questions regarding the ARLIS/NA organization and its activities to the Chapters Liaison, instead of directly to ARLIS/NA headquarters (TEI).

    Heather has started compiling a chapter handbook in Google Docs, to facilitate succession planning for chapter officers.

  5. Treasurer’s Report (Nick Curotto)
  6. Membership is at 53 members. We have finished most expenditures for the year.

  7. Web and Communications Report (Tessa Brawley-Barker)
  8. Roger Lawson submited a communications report in absentia: He has contacted members of the former ARLIS/NA Delaware chapter to join our listserv.

    The winning website re-design template is Hemingway. Sixteen members voted. Members will need to sumbit photographs to Tessa for the template’s scrolling banner. She will put a call out on the listserv for high-quality, appropriately sized photos. Roger and Tessa re-arranged the navigation hierarchy on the website menu. Once the website re-design is complete, the chapter will make an official announcement of its name change to the larger ARLIS/NA membership.

    Web stats: Between September 13-October 15, 2014, the website had 250 sessions, 80% of the sessions were new, 2 pages viewed per session, 1 minute 58 seconds average length per session, 78.6% bounce rate.

  9. Chapter-Level Mentoring (Heather Slania)
  10. ARLIS/NA is implementing a chapter-level mentoring program. ARLIS/NA will distribute a toolkit, application forms, readings, etc. to participating chapters. Each participating chapter will need to designate a program liaison. Discussion led to a consensus to implement a mentoring program in our chapter. Heather will put a call out for a program liaison on the chapter listserv.

  11. Call for nominations for open offices
  12. Open offices for 2015 are Vice-Chair (3 years) and Secretary/Treasurer (2 years). The call for nominations will also be made on the chapter listserv.

  13. Other business
  14. The call for Whittenborn Award submissions is now out. Please forward the call for submissions to your institutional contacts.

    The deadline for the chapter conference travel award will be fixed every year at January 15, for a $500 award.

    The Gerd Muehsam Award for excellence in a graduate stuent paper or project has announced a call for submissions.

    Sarah Osborne-Bender has a new position as he Visual Resources Curator at American University. She will continue to do some cataloging work at The Phillips Collection.
