Membership. The number of members is not down as it was in the spring; we now have a healthy membership. As at the spring meeting, the connection of local and national membership was brought up. Roger Lawson stated that technically ARLIS/NA and the chapter are not independent and that in order to join the Chapter, one must be a member of ARLIS/NA. Kathy Cowan said that our Chapter wanted to let people be members of just the Chapter alone for financial reasons. According to Ann Woodward, there are insurance issues and ARLIS/NA could be liable for something that happens at the Chapter level. Cynthia Barth expressed interest in connecting local and national membership in some way. Kathy Cowan mentioned the possibility of increasing the registration fee for non-members at the fall meeting to include membership. Ann Woodward said she would bring up these issues at the mid-year ARLIS/NA board meeting on Sunday and report back to the group.
Fall Meeting. Kathy Woodrell reported on the schedule for the October meeting in DC.
Future Meetings. Because the next ARLIS/NA meeting will be in Banff, and many members may not be able to attend, the Chapter may only have two full meetings in 2006. As in the past, the winter meeting will be an officers meeting. Possible future full meeting locations suggested were Annapolis, National Museum of the American Indian/Washington, DC, and Richmond.
Reports. Stephanie Moye talked about her positive experiences at the ARLIS Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management.
Outreach to Library Schools. Lucie Stylianopoulos and Emily Rafferty discussed the ever present need to recruit students into the Chapter. It was suggested that internship opportunities and meeting announcements be posted to the Catholic University and University of Maryland library school listservs, and that we talk to student organizations. Emily will contact Joan Stahl about Ann Woodward and Lucie coming to speak to her class in the fall about ARLIS.
